Polarization Vector Rotations: Real, Spurious, Hidden and Imaginary

چکیده
Large and variable polarization is an inherent property of a majority of blazars. Systematic rotations of the polarization vector have been claimed for several blazars. In some cases, however, the reality of these rotations may be questionable. We suggest an additional method for the verification of the reality of polarization position angle rotations based on the correlation of the normalized Stokes parameters.

Self-induced polarization anisoplanatism
This paper suggests that the astronomical science data recorded with low F# telescopes for applications requiring a known point spread function shape and those applications requiring instrument polarization calibration may be compromised unless the effects of vector wave propagation are properly modeled and compensated. Exoplanet coronagraphy requires “matched filter” masks and explicit designs...
متن کاملA real explanation for imaginary eigenvalues
Abstract This paper first reviews how anti-symmetric matrices in two dimensions yield imaginary eigenvalues and complex eigenvectors. It is shown how this carries on to rotations by means of the Cayley transformation. Then the necessary tools from real geometric algebra are introduced and a real geometric interpretation is given to the eigenvalues and eigenvectors. The latter are seen to be two...
متن کاملPair Production and Vacuum Polarization of Vector Particles with Electric Dipole Moments and Anomalous Magnetic Moments
The matrix, 8-component Dirac-like form of P -odd equations for boson fields of spins 1 and 0 are obtained and the GL(2, c) symmetry group of equations is derived. We found exact solutions of the field equation for vector particles with arbitrary electric and magnetic moments in external constant and uniform electromagnetic fields. The differential probability of pair production of vector parti...
متن کاملAdapted complex structures and the geodesic flow
In this paper, we give a new construction of the adapted complex structure on a neighborhood of the zero section in the tangent bundle of a compact, real analytic Riemannian manifold. Motivated by the “complexifier” approach of T. Thiemann as well as certain formulas of V. Guillemin and M. Stenzel, we obtain the polarization associated to the adapted complex structure by applying the “imaginary...
